Everyone’s skin can be described as a type, such as dry, normal, combination,
or oily.
In addition to your skin type, you may have specific skin conditions such as acne, rosacea, age spots, or sensitivity—just to name a few.
Ojas believes in each aesthetician’s expert evaluation of your skin and its individual needs. For this reason, we ask that all new clients begin their facial treatments at Ojas with a Customized Personal Facial. For your convenience and interest, we have listed some of the information you might find out about your skin at your first facial, as well as what types of active ingredients and products may be used to treat it.
Remember, the best way to care for your skin is with a holistic approach to wellness. A good diet, adequate exercise, rest, and stress management are the backbone of any good skin care regiment.
Dry Skin:
Dry skin often feels tight, can sometimes flake and peel, and may appear dull and lifeless. Fine lines can become especially apparent, most notably around the eye and lip areas. Finding the underlying causes of dry skin is essential to proper treatment. Causes for dryness range from dehydration to lack of exercise to improper cleansing. Treatments focus on deep hydration and will often include intensive masks and moisturizers.
Normal/Combination Skin:
Normal/combination skin has an even tone and texture. Some oil or dryness may occur in areas but is not problematic. Breakouts are usually linked with hormonal or lifestyle changes. Care for this skin type focuses on the prevention of outward signs of aging and removal of environmental impurities.
Oily Skin:
You may have oily skin if you experience shine, have visible pores, and are prone to blemishes. While oily skin doesn’t show lines and wrinkles as easily as other skin types, it needs to be maintained to prevent breakouts and to control shine. Phytoestrogen-rich herbal products help balance sebum production and beautify skin from the inside out. Treatments will not strip skin of moisture, but will instead bring skin into proper balance.
Sensitive Skin:
Overly sensitive skin can feel especially dry, peel in scales, exhibit redness, and have itchy spots. Often, those most affected by sensitive skin have fair complexions and light colored eyes. Lack of exercise, bad diet, environmental pollution, and the use of certain skin care products can aggravate sensitivity. Sensitive skin must be treated gently, and only the safest products, often those containing rosehip and other anti-inflammatory agents, are used.
Acne:
Acne-prone skin is usually normal to oily, but can occur in all skin types. Many individuals are plagued with acne from adolescence through adulthood. Breakouts are caused as plugged hair follicles lead to the formation of pimples, whiteheads, and blackheads. These symptoms are further aggravated by pollution, stress, and unbalanced diets. Over time, acne can be all but eliminated by lowering stress and following a healthy diet, and through consistent skin care treatments. Acne-reducing facials may include products containing paprika and anti-inflammatory ingredients.
Rosacea:
Rosacea is sometimes confused with acne, as it often appears as inflammation and redness on the nose, forehead, cheekbone, or chin areas. On the skin’s surface, inflamed capillaries cause the complexion to have a red, blotchy, or bumpy appearance. Clients with rosacea may also experience pimples and pustules. While there is no cure for rosacea, products with organic herbs help contract blood vessels to return complexions to a healthier appearance.
Wrinkles:
Natural aging of the skin is a fact of life. When keratin cell connections are too tight, wrinkles are formed. Products with glycolic acid are effective in loosening tight cell connection, while products featuring grape seed improve vitality. In combination with smart sun behavior, good sleep habits, and a healthy diet, treatments can provide great wrinkle-reducing results.
Age Spots:
Years of sunlight can wreak havoc on the skin. Not only can the sun cause freckling, it can also lead to unwanted brown spots (chloasma, commonly called liver spots). Visible patches of dark pigmentation on the skin are one of the most common signs of aging. Products featuring rosehip are ideal to treat this condition. Clients may also receive the Yogurt Power Peel among other treatments.
Male Skin Conditions:
Men often suffer from stubble rash and inflamed follicles due to sensitive skin, as well as skin toughness and thickness due to shaving products. Tough and thick skin restricts hair from penetrating the skin’s surface, causing bumps and blemishes. Male skin may benefit from deep pore cleansing and exfoliation.
